Tips about halogen heaters

Author: Theodore Category: Home Appliances

For older homes with poor heating systems or for office workers who are too cold throughout the winter in a chilly office, halogen heaters can be a great option for providing additional warmth to an enclosed space. This type of heater is power through a regular electrical outlet and uses halogen elements to produce heat, instead of heating coils like typical space heaters. Some of these heaters are also available with an oscillating feature which uses a fan to help circulate the heat evenly around the room.

As with any type of space heater, precautions should be used when operating a halogen heater. They can cause fires when not properly located or supervised. Never place a heater too close to any wall or near any fabric like curtains that could blow onto the heater. Heaters could also cause carpet to ignite if tipped over. This is why many heaters come with a safety feature that it will turn off when tipped over. When placing the heater, be aware of the cord which could be a tripping hazard for other people, children or pets.

Many studies have indicated that the halogen heating element is extremely durable and can be used for years and years before needing replaced. They are also energy efficient, requiring less electric to heat a space than a traditional heater.

When looking at heaters to purchase, pay close attention to the recommended room sizes on the packaging. It would be extremely wasteful to buy a heater capable of heating a room twice the size needed. This will only result in an overly warm room. If you purchase too small of a heater it will have to constantly work overtime to get the room to the correct temperature. Also check to make sure that the heater has the important safety features to protect your family and your home.
